How heat pump running costs work
A heat pump runs on electricity but delivers more heat than the electricity it uses — typically three to four units of heat per unit of power. So although electricity costs more per unit than gas, the efficiency closes much of the gap. Your actual cost depends on your home's heat demand, your tariff, and how warm you keep the place. This tool uses the current Ofgem price cap electricity rate as a baseline; a dedicated heat-pump tariff can lower it further.
